"A Most Violent Year" is a 2014 American crime thriller film set in New York City during the winter of 1981. It follows the story of Abel Morales, an immigrant businessman who tries to expand his heating oil empire while being pressured by his competitors and the authorities.

Everly is a 2014 action thriller directed by Joe Lynch, starring Salma Hayek as the titular character. Everly is a prostitute working for the crime lord Taiko (Hiroyuki Watanabe), working secretly to bring down his organization with the help of the police. While trapped inside her apartment, Everly faces off with hired killers and even other prostitutes who have been promised a bounty if they are able to kill her. The film features music by Bear McCreary, who did the soundtrack for the rebooted version of the Battlestar Galactica television series. Lynch originally wrote the story while listening to the soundtrack for the second season of the show. Early reviews of the film have been mixed to positive, and compared to the early Die Hard movies or the blood-spattered epic of Kill Bill. The film plays toward assassin and mafia tropes and offers little in the way of plot, but plenty in the way of action.

A murder ring, consisting of four Southern Australian men, were convicted of murdering at least twelve people between 1991 and 1999. They used knives, rope, as well as a double barreled shotgun to kill then sawed some bodies up, stuffed them into barrels and added acid to dissolve the evidence. It's difficult to imagine a more heinous group of humans who tortured and then killed others for their social security and pension money or simply because they didn't like their way of life. Some of the victims were apparently gay or obese or even drug users and were known by their murderers. Most of the bodies were stored in an old bank building in Snowtown and a few more were found buried in a Salibury North backyard. John Justin Bunting, a psychopathic killer, was the apparent leader of the group and has been sentenced to multiple life terms. The other members of the "death squad" include Robert Joe Wagner who allowed Bunting to talk him into participating in the murder spree. Also Mark Ray Haydon, who helped dispose of the bodies and James Spyridon Vlassakis who, along with his half brother and his mother, were found guilty of torturing and murdering several of the victims. The film is made even more gruesome by the fact it is based on fact!

Public Enemies is fair to compare with the cult Heat released fifteen years ago, but it seems that this time the Michael Mann jumped above the head, and it is not surprising as it seems at first glance. Mann manages to convert high-tech to high art, and that this film will be remembered after seventy years, as now, let's say, Dreyer's movies, as a major illustration of the key role of Mann in the world of cinema. And this is not only the matter of the form. Yes, Mann filmed first digital retro. And yes, the atmosphere of the thirties was recreated down to the dress models.

Focus is a 2015 film starring Will Smith as Nicky, an accomplished con artist, and Margot Robbie as Jess, his apprentice. Jess is working the opposite side of the same scam that Nicky is involved in—the most dangerous job he has tackled yet. To add to Nicky's woes, Jess is now an accomplished con artist in her own right, and manages to throw Nicky off his game at a time when he cannot afford to be anything but focused. What will happen when these two seasoned con artists with a romantic history collide?

Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai is a 1999 crime film directed by Jim Jarmusch. The movie tells the story of a hitman named Ghost Dog, who follows the ancient code of the samurai and is bound to his mafia boss, Louie. After a job goes wrong, Ghost Dog becomes a target and must fight for survival while staying true to his samurai principles.
