Superheroes are popular and abundant in comic books. Now we find many of them making it onto the big screens, followed up by DVD release for home entertainment. Just as Captain America, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, and Thor have made a big splash in the live action arena, The Avengers looks to be a big hit and huge money maker for its distributor Walt Disney Pictures. Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson from Pulp Fiction, Iron Man) is director of S.H.I.E.L.D., an agency for international peacekeeping. When an unexpected enemy threatens global security and safety Fury decides to call on a team of superheroes to save the world. Among his choices are Iron Man Tony Stark (played by Robert Downey, Jr. from Iron Man, Tropic Thunder), the reclusive billionaire industrialist who invents a mechanical suit of armor. Also summoned are Captain America Steve Rogers (played by Chris Evans from Captain America: The First Avenger) who’s experiments with serums led to his super human physicality, and Dr. Bruce Banner who is the Hulk. Played by Mark Ruffalo from Shutter Island, The Kids Are All Right) the Hulk is somewhat of a “loose cannon” making the other team members leery of his participation. Rounding out the dream team of Avengers is Thor (played by Chris Hemsworth from 2009’s Star Trek and A Perfect Getaway) Norse’s God of Thunder.
