With intentions of this one being a launching pad for an entirely new series of films on the “great apes taking over the planet” theory, director Rupert Wyatt along with producer and screen writer Rick Jaffa hope to see fans follow along to make this concept as big a hit. Sci-fi films with an unusual theme such as this can usually count on plenty of audience enthusiasm and as this one deals with attempting a cure for Alzheimer’s it is current and relevant to what’s going on around us. James Franco (Pineapple Express, 127 Hours) plays a scientist who uses apes to attempt finding a cure for Alzheimer’s disease and when problems arise with one of his apes called Caesar, he simply takes the ape home with him to keep the evil lab doctors from interfering. Seems as if Caesar (played by Andy Serkis from the Lord of the Rings trilogy) has begun mutating quite rapidly and that’s never a good sign as he’ll soon begin leading a revolt of the apes. Also starring John Lithgow (of the Shrek series and Harry and the Hendersons), Chelah Horsdal (Marley & Me), Freida Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire) and David Hewlett (The whistleblower, Stargate: Atlantis).
